Community Month

I had written this for our July newsletter, but we've extended our Community month offer through July~please enjoy my thoughts on community (our monthly theme!) as we wrap up Stampede week!   Not only a favorite topic but also a favorite time of the year! Bowness in July is bursting with community events~from the Bowness Stampede parade, Music in the Park, movie nights, you name it... We try to keep a listing of local events in the office and also post through Elan's Facebook page-make sure you're there to keep up to date! It's exciting that we can tap into our local gatherings as well as the community that is created within the walls of Elan. Did you know that one of the reasons we moved Elan to Bowness was to be a part of this spirit and to help it grow even more? To help support our community both of Elan and Bowness, we've created our Community week, running during Stampede week. Ask us how you can invite your family or friends to join

Blessingway Art

Image
Scarlett and I had our Blessingway in early June.  We held it as a way to mark our transition from single motherhood and single kid-dom, to new parenthood and sibling"hood".  We had friends and family present-from 6 year olds to grandma!  Some activities were traditional, such as the wrist binding, and some we're not, like the piñata for the girls! Our two art projects are here:  affirmations/advice for birth or parenting or sibling life written or drawn by our well wishers.   Birthing necklace with beads or stones from our friends and family.  Scarlett has one too, although not shown!  Some of the beads include ones from travels (Indonesia); a pendant from far away family (India); a homemade glass pendant; an amazonite pendant for intuition & creativity; moonstones and rose quartz; beads for new beginnings, a rainbow baby, calming, hearts, and beads just because. The necklace is a lovely reminder of all of the women and girls gathered that Sunday, wi

Stampede in Bowness

Image
Yee-haw!   It's Calgary Stampede time and Elan had it's first opportunity to have a piece of stampede right outside it's doors.  On Saturday, July 4th, Bowness had it's annual parade and pancake breakfast.  The parking lot outside our office was filled with griddles, hungry parade go-ers, local businesses and community groups, and live music.    We opened the office as a Mom and Babes Sanctuary - somewhere clean and quiet to change or nurse baby.  Here's some photos of the day: Thank you to the Bowness Lions and all of the amazing volunteers that make this event happen.  We always look forward to the Bowness parade day!

June~ Nature and Nourish

As summer gets closer and the days warmer, our backyard and house blend into one. Our June theme comes from the good fortune that its finally easy to spend time in nature, and its that time of year that food starts magically appearing out of the earth~rhubarb, veggies greens, herbs and more. I've had the gardening bug for years and am in the middle of preparing our vegetable garden and growing our food forest, which is now in year two! Its a slow process this year with a big heavy belly, but will be worth it in a month or two. The subject of how we nourish our bodies is one that repeats itself over and over again, and recently showed up at our viewing of the documentary Your Second Fifty. Should we be juicing? Including smoothies? Should we cut out aggravating foods like sugar or gluten? Less fats and salts? More fats and salts? Eat locally? There is no one answer that applies to anyone. The best advice I can suggest is to try a new habit, and ch

Herbal Wellness Consultations at Elan

Time to check back in as there's so many things happening at our office in Bowness!  This month we have two new practitioners joining us~ Melanie offering Herbal Wellness Consultations, and  Angela offering Acupuncture and Acutonics services (information on Angela coming soon!).   Here's information on Melanie and Full Bloom Herbals !  Melanie is available for  appointments on Thursdays.   Full Bloom Herbals will support and guide you in choosing your healing path.  These consultations are empowering, putting you in the lead and the heart of your healing.  During our consultation process you can expect to have a detailed conversation about your concerns. Past medical history, habits of daily living, family health, stress and emotional well-being will all be explored. From this conversation and evaluation we will work together to create a plan that meets your needs. This plan will often include nutritional changes, herbal supports, meditation/reflections, and res
